Have you ever listened to yourself when you talk to God? Last week I acted as a third party while I was having a typical conversation with God. The dialogue went like, “God, I’m so fat. Help me loose some weight.”

Then shockingly, the listening Me said: “What the hell, You sound like a total looser, you think God’s gonna help you? Get real yah baby.”

There I was, looking at myself in the mirror and an avalanche of questions began to reign in on me. “Does God think I’m an idiot? Do I really pass up opportunities to help myself and waste time whining to God? Does God get tired of listening to me?”

After a solacing moment, the Me that likes to talk with God started to think: “Maybe I do take God’s name in vain by calling this Being before I try to improve things myself. Maybe, I’m not only using God’s name in vain when I give God the erroneous last name “Damn”.”

In a reminiscent way, I pondered if I had wasted precious moments with God. Even though God is everywhere and ever present, lots of shitty moments with God just seem to add up to shit. At this point, I decided, I have to get real. If I want God to respect me, I need to become a little bit more disciplined and self-contained and not shrill at every little problem that comes my way.

Now, when I talk to God, it’s not about trivial Naweko life repeated ad nauseum, but more like thanks God just for being there to listen to me, I need that.
