What is a papule?
A slightly elevated lesion that is solid is a papule. Less than 5mm in diameter is the general size of a papule.

What is a pustule?
Filled with puss that contains white blood cells, bacteria and dead skin cells is the blemish called pustules. They can easily break and are very fragile. If they are formed over a sebaceous hair follicle, they will contain a hair in the center. Pustules are dome shaped and if you let them progress, they will grow into a cyst.

What is a nodule?
An inflamed lesion that extends into deeper layers of skin is called a nodule. A nodule is dome shaped and looks like a papule. As they damage the inner tissues of the skin, nodules can cause scarring.

What is a cyst?
Filled with bacteria, white blood cells and dead skin cells, cyst are severe forms of acne. Being very damaging to the skin tissue, cysts can be very painful and extend deep inside. Any acne can cause scars that extends deep into the tissue and damages it.
