Travelling on aeroplanes during pregnancy can be quite a test. Here are a few tips for you to prepare yourself for that long haul.

See your doctor. Consult your doctor if it is alright for you to make that long trip. Every womens body is different. If you had miscarriages in the past, your doctor might not advise you to go. The best time advised by doctors is to travel during your second month of pregnancy. You might just have recovered from nausea and would feel a little better to travel during this time plus (youre stronger). Get a consent letter from your doctor or any other information that you might need in case you would be questioned during your travel.

Inform of your pregnancy to your airline. You will be required to fill up some papers. They are usually to confirm that you will not hold their staff or the airline responsible should anything goes wrong.

Anti nausea band. Although some reviews about anti nausea band says that they have no effect, it is not hurt for you to purchase one. There are plenty of brands in your local pharmacy and all you have to do is wear on your wrist before your flight. This avoids you from taking motion sickness or any kind of pills that you take for travel.

Stretch yourself. Do a lot of stretching especially if you are flying 14 hours or more. This would make you feel a lot better. Walk up and down the aisle. If you are not comfortable doing it when everyone is awake, do it when they are sleeping (unless you are going east then the sun will be there the whole way!).

Eat. Food that is served on board usually is served at special times. But you are pregnant and you might be hungry at different times even if you just ate. Do not be shy. Just order or ask if they have anything to eat!

Take medication from home. Medication in some countries may be quite expensive and you might need prescription. Bring your regular medication from home such as your muscles rub cream, flu pills etc.

Taking it easy. We are always so eager to see everything during a holiday. But be reminded that the body may react differently. Long hours in winter weather and too much walking would put a strain on your body. Follow what your body tells you. If you start aching, it simply means you have to take a break or call it a day.

Eating and drinking right. Going overseas during pregnancy does not mean you have to keep away from trying local food. In fact this is the best time to enjoy them. Remember to keep away from raw food or tap water and you should be fine.

Drink plenty of fluids. You might forget to drink enough during travelling. Or you think that by drinking less it might keep you away from looking for a toilet, especially during pregnancy. Well, drink plenty and go to the loo whenever you body tells you to.
